About Us

Spin Together is a spinning competition organized by a small group of fiber artists and indie dyers.

Here is a bit about each of us:

Isaura Perez

Isaura Perez is the owner of Knitspin. She says that Knitspin came about from her love of creating colors, fibers, and yarns that she couldn’t find in stores. Her background was being a color specialist with a top hair salon. That background helped her to start dyeing yarn and fiber, making different blends to find the just the right color that she wanted. She loves dyeing and compiling different colors and shades.

She learned to spin and dye different fibers and eventually started her own business. Her company, Knitspin, opened its doors on Etsy on August 25, 2005, and she says that it has been a great 14 years!

From time to time, she teaches dyeing fiber and yarn to others who would like to learn. She says she has met so many wonderful people while doing shows.

Heather Campbell

Heather Campbell knew she wanted to spin her whole life. Finally in 1994 she got her chance when she stumbled upon a tiny spinning shop in Hannibal, Missouri. Once she had her wheel, she never looked back. In 2012 she founded Oceanside Angoras, which quickly became a national winning producer of Satin, and English angoras.

Then In 2014 she opened Purly Shell Fiber Arts, a brick and mortar yarn shop in Ilwaco, WA. There she shares her passion with visitors from all over the world–teaching them about fiber arts and providing top quality products. Purly Shell is known for amazing fiber blends thanks to Heather’s dedication to local and sustainable fiber sources. She and her team scour the west coast for the best fleece and utilize small mills to process it into one-of-a-kind roving and yarn runs. In 2019 she also expanded into indie dyeing and loves making creative unique colorways in her workshop.

Jennifer Goodie

Jennifer is the owner of Goodie Supply Company. She offers beautiful hand-dyed top, locks, art batts, hand-dyed yarn, and handspun yarn from her home in Los Angeles. Jennifer is a fiber nerd and is knowledgeable about many different breeds and fiber preps. She began her fiber arts journey as a knitter in elementary school. Since then the engineer in her has sent her spiraling down the rabbit hole on her path to ultimate fiber nerdiness. First it was designing the perfect project by frankensteining patterns together which eventually lead to just making her own. Then dyeing to get the colors and placement she wanted. Then when that wasn’t good enough, figuring out how yarn was made was needed, so she took up spinning to get the perfect yarn construction for whatever struck her fancy. Then there was processing her own wool and other fibers because just dyeing and spinning wasn’t enough control over the finished product. Everyone is probably lucky that it isn’t practical to raise sheep in the middle of Los Angeles, although since it’s almost to the point that she needs a second house for all her fiber arts gear, maybe that one could have livestock 🤣 Since this ridiculous approach is how Jennifer handles all things in life, including programming, she’s also the tech guru of our team.

Jennifer is an active member of The Greater Los Angeles Spinning Guild and teaches various fiber arts classes in Southern California.

Carla Hanson

Carla Hanson is the owner of Purple Lamb Fiber Arts. Her love of fiber arts began back in 2003 when she decided out of the blue to learn to weave. Shortly thereafter she started spinning and then dyeing and then knitting–completely the reverse order of normal people.

She opened her shop in 2011 to sell her handspun yarn, wild and wonderful art batts, and hand-dyed yarn. Her yarn and fiber are inspired by the classics and by the beauty of nature.

When she heard that Spinzilla wouldn’t be happening in 2019, she decided that somebody had to do something about it, and so she asked a small group of wonderful indie dyers and fiber artists to help, and they all rolled up their sleeves and got straight to work.

She stepped down from running the competition in 2023 so she could focus on her family and business, but she hopes that Spin Together will be able to continue long into the future and that it continues to bring joy to spinners everywhere.
